BoomBox is producer/DJ Russ Randolph and singer/songwriter/guitarist Zion Rock Godchaux. This pair of dynamic artists uses their rich musical history and their vision of music and popular culture to deliver a style of music distinctly different from anything heard or seen in music today. This signature sound and show brings live music to a new, elevated level. BoomBox evolved through the common visualization of a pair of forward thinking artists from diverse musical backgrounds. Raised by supportive and musically inclined parents, both Godchaux and Randolph had an obsession with music at very young ages. Godchaux, who grew up with deeply embedded rock and roll roots, began playing drums at the age of two, and played guitar and wrote his own songs as a teen. During the 90s, Godchaux was a well-received touring DJ based out of the San Francisco area. Randolph began as a young drummer, but it’s what was happening behind the scenes that attracted him most. As much producers as they are musicians, it is Randolph’s understanding of soundscape and Godchaux’s knack for songwriting that keeps BoomBox resonating at higher levels.

As an independent group traveling nationally looking to spread music you experience your share of interesting road stories. Last night in Boone, NC is one of those stories that we not only want to share for entertainment value but also to explain to the sold out audience that was present what went down.

This was BoomBox’s 2nd visit to Boone, NC and the Boone Saloon. The first show was a great experience with Matt and the folks at the Boone Saloon. Not too long after our first visit the Boone Saloon had an unfortunate incident and sustained fire and smoke damage that required a rebuild and though we received offers from other venues in Boone for our return show, we opted to return to the Boone Saloon to show our support.

Fast forward to last night and the sold out show where we were dealing with some sound related and general show related issues. BoomBox has and will always do everything in our power to assure that we put on the best show absolutely possible, and this night was no different. However, on this night the venue did nothing to work with the band on a variety of issues including sound quality both in the club and on stage as well as their overall treatment of us, our crew and the audience in attendance.

We are always willing to work with folks as issues arise, but we are not willing to compromise the show for clubs, owners or promoters that have no interest in attempting to work with us to find solutions to issues that may arise.

Sometime just before 100am the co-owner and engineer made the decision to turn off our stage sound because of noise ordinance and equipment issues. In the world of music shutting off a performer’s ability to hear on stage is a novice tactic done by unpro venues and engineers as a way to control the performance with out working with the artist or crew to improve the issues at hand.

The stage sound being cut was the last straw in a variety of issues and overall lack of respect that our crew had been dealing with through out the night while we were on stage. At the point the stage sound was cut Russ (aka King Kong) unplugged one of the clubs monitors, stepped upon his sub, held the monitor high over head and from the encouragement of those in the crowed let the monitor tumble to the stage. As the show came to its abrupt conclusion the co-owner of the venue approached the stage with the intent of physically attacking Russ for his actions, however before he had the opportunity our manager, on the road with us for a short time, diverted him at which time a brief skirmish ensued. As we packed our equipment the same co-owner continued to antagonize the situation though his own staff continued to ask him to stop the harassment. The night ended with his refusing to pay the band though the venue sold out 2 times over.

That said, we thank all of you last night to stop by and apologize for the actions of the venue would like to apologize to those fans in attendance, but we want to assure you the actions are no indication on our love for the fans in attendance. We will be back to Boone and will make this up to all you. As always, thanks for your support.

BOOMBOX makes their triumphant return to Southwest Virginia for a crucial round of heavy booty duty and social stimulation at Blacksburg's newest live music niche the Lantern. BOOMBOX's patent sound fuses the fat, danceable back tracks of
producer/beat-maestro Russ Randolph with the Dylan-esque lyrical finesse of front man Zion Rock Godchaux. Godchaux's guitar antics tingle down the spine to the lower abdomen area via fuzzy, phased out wacka chops delivered in the traditional blues rooted "call and response" style. The end result is the spontaneous grinding and meshing of flesh on the dance floor while the dynamic duo serves up ice-cold cans of jam to the parched from the first beat to last call. BOOMBOX applies a blue-collared work ethic to their music combining tireless touring and savvy word of mouth grass roots marketing which has inevitably garnered them widespread accolades in the industry and on the streets as one of the hottest electro-jam twosomes on the national tour circuit.
