Newent 2 – 2 Wootton Bassett Ladies 3rds (14 November 2009)
Bassett Ladies 3rd XI travelled to Newent in Severn 3 to face a team recently relegated from the division above.
Bassett got off to a good attacking start with the midfield controlling the play, eventually creating the opportunity for Jenny Jones to score and put the visitors into the lead. Newent came back just before half time making the most of some Bassett defensive errors. Following a save by keeper Katy Roberts, a Newent forward picked up the rebound and, despite a further block by Roberts, Newent were able to force the ball home for an equaliser.
In the second half Bassett again had the more composed and 'prettier' play on the pitch. However Newent broke out of defence and the visitors’ midfield failed to hold them up allowing the home side to take a 2-1 lead. Bassett equalised through Jones after she broke through and, one on one with the keeper, calmly took it round her to score. Bassett should have sewn it up late in the game but, despite numerous short corner opportunities they failed to convert and the final score was 2-2.

Bassett finally put the game beyond the game beyond doubt when Tegan Buchanan intercepted a pass, slipped the ball though to Becky Thomas who set up Trowbridge for her second and Bassett's fifth. Good attacking play by Sue Davis, Sophie Legg and Abi Iles kept up the pressure in the second half, with the post saving the home side on several occasions. Midway through the second half a right wing cross from Emma Collison was deflected in front of goal where Sarah Price got a touch to slip the ball just inside the far post to make it 2-1. Bassett found some self-belief and worked even harder for a well-earned equaliser when they followed up several good saves with Natasha Moore finally sweeping it in. Wootton Bassett Ladies 1sts 5 - 6 Team Bath Buccs 3rds (10 October 2009)
Bassett 1sts got off to a solid start against Bath Buccs at home in West Clubs North Division. Good attacking play between the midfield and forwards allowed Bassett to keep the pressure on the Bath defence and were unlucky not to capitalise on many chances. Finally a cross by Debbie Trowbridge into the “D” was converted by Emma Collison to open the score. Bassett’s second goal followed shortly after with a great first time strike by Trowbridge from a short corner. Bath fought back, scoring to bring the score to 2-1 and shortly afterwards they were awarded a penalty flick, but an excellent save by Jody Langford in goal kept Bassett in the game. As half time approached, a great reverse stick sweep by Sarah Price put Bassett ahead 3-1.
Bassett came out fighting again after the break and Cath Possamai soon converted a great goal from a solo run. Unfortunately their concentration then lapsed and Team Bath used this to their advantage, breaking up the Bassett defence and scoring two quick goals to bring the score back to 4-3. Bassett seemed nervy but Price calmed things down slightly by scoring her second goal of the day, slotting the ball past the keeper on the near post.
The last ten minutes of the game were tense with end to end chances, both teams coming under pressure. Bassett were unlucky to give away a few short corners and Bath converted, bringing the score back level at 5-5. The visitors held their own with a greatly improved performance from a more confident defence and player of the match goal keeper Katy Roberts repeatedly kept the ball out. Bassett had some strong play through the midfield but failed to capitalise on chances to take the lead, due to an excellent performance by the opposition’s keeper.
With the half time scoreline 0-0, both sides came into the second half fighting. Malvern were first to make a break through slotting the ball behind goal keeper Roberts. But Bassett then made some excellent breaks but failed to score until the last 5 minutes when Sophie Mattick scored her first goal for the club.
