I'm always caught between the "keep everything you get" mindset, and the urge to use basses I don't use to get ones want. Ultimately, I'm a player, not a collector, so things leave. I enjoy picking up a bass I remember  from my youth, messing with it, then moving it along.

Here are just some that have moved on, either in return for other, more lusted after basses, or just because they needed homes where they would get played.

1965 Gibson Thunderbird, practically swiped from a Texas pawn Shop that didn't know what they had. Rich Hoeg built the headstock, replacing the messed up replacement one that was on there. Currently involved in trade talks.

Line 6 Variax bass with a fretless neck. When these came out, I paid a Grand. Now you can get them for box tops and cigar bands. I got rid of mine a while ago.

This is a Jolana, made in Yugoslavia during the cold war. All in all, it was built really well. I liked it. I had a bass made in the Soviet Union from the same era that was crap in comparison.

Fender Roscoe Beck V. Loved the electronics, couldn't get around on the neck. Great 'Shoreline Gold' finish.

Ampeg Scroll Bass. Fretless. A true Basket Case when I got it. A great conversation starter, but really just an O.K. bass. I sold it to a kid who said his biggest influences were Jaco and Rick Danko. Perfect!
