First of all I want to thank you all who supported me and Hazerfan with such passion, love and excitement. It was a tough year for me due to some health issues and other major reasons. I have tried hard not to reflect any of these to my band mates and to you guys. I hope I succeeded. Anyway a new year, a new beginning for all of us... best regards Murat Bayhan (12.15.2005) Hello Hazerfriends, Wow - what a crazy year it's been, and there is no sign of slowing for 2006! We have several HUGE festival dates in the works, and other exciting new dishes on the menu... Starting with: Our new friends MAD LOVE have invited us to play a special gig this Friday at Rooster's Roadhouse in Alameda. SHOW STARTS AT 9 PM 12/16!!! This is a FUN FUN FUN place to see a show. All you eastbay-er's that have been asking us to come back to that side of the bay, here we are! Come on down, grab a bite and enjoy all the excellent local talent on the roster. Other news, we would like to wish Cris-P the best of luck with his new efforts in 2006. He is a unique bass player and aspiring singer and just know he'll be fronting a special project soon - watch out ladies! On that note, we would also like to welcome Terilynn Bench to the fold. Ter is a long time friend and musician who I'm sure you have heard with the Tellus 818 project and Swing and a Miss. She is incredible, delectable, and has a great bottom end. Her bass playing is excellent as well (tee hee). The Quarternote gig was excellent as always. Jolie of Lotus Dog left no @ss unkicked in the musical sense. Her beautiful voice and haunting mellodies lulled us all into a state of euphoria. You should check out her music at www.lotusdog.net - Man, we are so lucky to know such bad @ss rocker chicks. Jolie and Tellus 818 performed an amazing set worthy of major press. Hazerfan went acoustic with Mastyka's enchanting Marty Huerta on the electric sitar and Miss T. sat in on bass. What a night - no cameras, so we'll just have to commit it to memory. You guys GOTTA see this lineup. TELL ALL YOUR FRIENDS! Hazerfan, Tellus, Mastyka and Mothmen will be doing a mini-tour of LA in Mid-January. We can hardly wait to share the road stories with you as we dream them up in our anticipation! If you need a jaunt outta town to escape the holiday jollies, you are more than invited to road trip it with us. Also if you haven't listened to Darian O'Toole yet, 106.9fm - you will be hooked 10am-2pm. She rocks our world! We can't tell you how much we hope to see you on Friday, quite possibly our last gig of 2006. Please come so we can wish you holiday best and happy new year in person. We all survived one hell of a year together, and we'd really love to hug you, say thanks and give you that love in person - It just means more that way. So much love and peace to all, Hazerfan Murat, Beth, Alejandro & Ms. T. (09/17/05) This Saturday we are performing at the Four Provinces, Pacifica with Arena Rock Band EL84. (they rock!!!) Recently there has been some positive line up changes in Hazerfan, Alejandro Godoy is now playing guitar in Hazerfan. We are very delighted to share the same stage with him. Anyway we hope you can come to the Four Provinces on Saturday and see and hear the change live. Much love, HAZERFAN (08/20/05) Hello Friends! COME TO THE LAST DAY SALOON ON Saturday AUGUST 20! You are officially invited to HAZERFAN'S FIRST ANNUAL LEO BIRTHDAY BASH! Yes, it is Beth's Birthday, and Hazerfan is hosting the party! When asked what she wanted for her special day, she said, "rock at my favorite place, and be surrounded by my dearest friends..." Well, we got the venue and the gear, so all we need is YOU! Did you know many of Hazerfan's friends are Leo's? Aside from Beth, there are at least 6 leo buddies born on the same day, 3 the same year, and 3 in a band together! If you can guess who they all are, you will have a surprise waiting for you. Chances are you already know one or two... Rumor has it there may be a fortune teller, and the leos may sing a few tunes together...:) The lusty leos will be celebrating their timeless age and beauty! Come for an excellent night of music, dance, hedonism and absolute debauchery. (06/25/05) We are sad to announce that Patti Weiss will be taking a break from us on violin. The music we make with her is wonderful and we will miss her terribly. We do have some exciting things to announce, and if you were at the StudioZ show recently, then you've had a sneak peak.... If you haven't seen Hazerfan in the past 3 months, you will be delighted by the new approach we have taken: Beth has stepped up her duties to include jazzy, avante-garde clarinet in addition to her usual lovely vocal melodies and poetry. Another delightful addition, Cris-P, has brought a new edge and ferocity to the group with his double neck electric guitar/ electric bass. He is able to play both guitar and bass simultaneously thanx to today's advanced technology. And Murat continues to drive the band with his brilliant, restless drumming. We will perform at Quarter Note Bar & Grill in Sunnyvale this Saturday. There is an excellent line-up of local bands with God of Shamisen, Company Car and A Black August. We know it is a bit of a drive for most of you, but we promise you will not be disappointed. Please come enjoy some unique and truly original music. hope to see you all there, HAZERFAN Beth Hada, Cris-P, Murat Bayhan (02.05.2005) DELANCEY STREET – A BIG HEARTFELT THANK YOU FOR THE FEBRUARY 5th SHOW!!! Class – if I had to sum it all up in one word, that is what I would use to describe Delancey Street. In the course of 3 days, a rustic San Francisco warehouse at Pier 36, full of supplies, boxes and such was transformed into a virtual rock arena. We love the Delancey family, and we knew a good time was waiting for us, but we had no idea we would walk into a room with that many people waiting to cheer us on! The band "Mothman", fronted by our good friend Martin Huerta reunited after a several year hiatus. Performing an amazing set of gothtronica, Mothman prompted a breakdancing competition with athletic skill and character that hasn’t been seen since the early 80s. The holiday vacation spawned an acoustic spin-off of Hazerfan entitled MASTYKA which followed Mothman. Incorporating a mixture of influences from Spanish, Turkish, Scandinavian and Celtic traditional sounds, the set emanated a carnival, gypsy type vibe. Finally, Hazerfan took the stage, and I must say we had the best time ever. The crowd was pumped, energetic, and beautiful. All of the songs were so much fun to play, the crowd was involved, and especially lively. Midway through the set Rigney Miller, our bass player picked up a doumbek and went one-on-one with Murat Bayhan in a call-answer call-answer drum routine. Not to be left out of a good challenge, Patti Weiss joined in and the three duked it out. An encore impromptu version of Zeppelin’s “Whole Lotta Love” brought the house down. Fists in the air like you just don’t care – man what energy. What a memorable night. We met some of the coolest people ever. Thank you Delancey Street, Adrian, Robert, John, – for inviting us to your party at Pier 36, for all your hospitality, warmth and class. You really made us feel like royalty. You are the best! Mmmmwwwwwwwahhhhhh! -Beth Hazerfan (11.15.2004) Amanda Allan's review of our 11.10.2004 Blakes on Telegraph Show is released in Powerslave.com. Here is the part about us from that review: Turkish-inspired rockers Hazerfan have a psychedelia-by-deduction aspect. The Beatles' foray into the introduction of Indian instruments into their music can be viewed as a predecessor to the general direction of Hazerfan; however, Hazerfan are not merely a Western rock band with an Eastern timbre--Hazerfan is a fusion in the true sense of the word. Not as Eastern as Kula Shaker nor as Western as Nile, Hazerfan is somewhere between the two. Certain Eastern qualities stand out in Hazerfan's music, such as the use of electric violin to lend a gypsy quality especially in the emphasis of the raised 7th tone in harmonic minor and the airy often reverb-pedaled vocals with the Eastern-style shifting between accidentals. Vocalist Beth Hada is not as cold tonally as Natasha Atlas but at apex points reaches a similar though warmer brassiness, which compliments the cool minor quality of the violin playing in approximately the same note range as the human voice. The guitar, bass, and drums alternate frequently between Eastern and Western characteristics, drawing on an exhaustive supply of influences from classic rock to blues and funk roots as well as more Eastern phrasings and devices. Hazerfan's flavor resembles that of Zeppelin's "Kashmir", which the band covered--the driving violin line, strong drum/bass unity, and a fuzzy/scratchy guitar sound. The music has a spinning momentum to it, like a whirling dervish or plumes of smoke. There is a metal element at play here, although a more classical one, such as that of old Ozzy or Aerosmith, particularly evident in Hazerfan's use of stop/start devices. Compositionally, Hazerfan layers elements equally as complicated as those which Facing New York coordinates, going in at least as many different directions thematically but also unifying well at crux moments. "Hyperspace" being the absolute standout track, epitomizes the cohesive catchiness of these East-West blues/folk-metal elements in harmony. Hazerfan is a particularly excellent example of the virtues of absorbing as many influences as possible, even if it doesn't invoke certain stereotypically metal tropes.
