On Vacation!

Hey Everyone!  We are off for vacation now for easter.  Yeah!  It will be nice to have some time off as everybody goes there separate ways and does whatever they have planned.  As for me, I will be having surgery.  Blahh.... Something that I am not looking forward to but I know it must be done.  I will be having surgery on a hernia that was found last year.  I went to the doctor and had it checked and yep sure enough... a hernia.  He told me to just keep an eye on it for the time being and eventually it will have to be repaired.  So now that time has come.  I am not looking forward to the operation since this is my first ever surgery.  But I know it is necessary to have done and it has been bothering me for some time now.  I use my diaphragm and abs more than most people realize.  To gain support for the high notes I sing I have to have support.  If not then it would be very difficult to sing the high notes as well as sustain them like I do.  For those who have seen us in concert, have watched me hold notes for a very long time and really with no effort or strain at all.  But with the hernia, that has changed some.  There have been nights that it took everything I had to just stand there while the pain increased.  After a concert I would just go lay down in my bunk and rest.  That seemed to help as I was off my feet but still didn't solve the problem.  So April 8th on Wednesday, I will go have the problem taken care of.  The doctor said that it had a 5% chance of it ever coming back and to allow 8 weeks of doing absolutely nothing.  Well, there comes another problem.  I can't take 8 weeks off to recover and who would take my place while I did?  So it looks like I will be climbing "slowly" on the bus and not missing a concert.  Please be in prayer for me as I do this.  It will not be an easy thing to do.  I will not be doing any solo's during my recovery because I do not want to risk the chance of another operation and further damaging what will be repaired.  I am sure everyone will understand this and will be praying for a full recovery.  So as for MY vacation.... it will be spent in the bed laying there recovering so I can recover and see all of you wonderful people and friends that I have made throughout my career thus far.

Until next time.........
Jerry

Comments about "On Vacation!"

Jerry, I want you to know we will be praying...not only for you & your 100% recovery, but for the surgeon, doctors, nurses & every one working on 'your team' on Wednesday morning! I have NO doubt God will place His healing hand on you & bring you back better than ever...well...better than ever is not possible! I a old enough to be your grandmother---well---maybe your mother!!! But I've been around the southern gospel music industry since I was a few weeks old, and I KNOW for a fact, you are THE BEST & most consisent high tenor to be with any group! (David Phelps will kill me if he reads this) lol! You take care of yourself & be confident & have faith that we are with you & so is God! You are a blessing & a gift to southern gospel music! Thanks for all you do & don't over-do it on your recovery! Bev Jones Belton, TX
