what part do we take out

Hello everybody
Hope you are taking the time to listen to our new release Hold On. If you haven't, maybe you can take a listen and  vote. Hey I want to write about a subject or really a question I get a lot. Do you feel that there are to many groups in Southern Gospel Music?I don't think so but we do have to many on the radio.  I feel we need Part-Time groups for the industry to survive. But I do feel that we all have our place. I feel that recording today has hurt the industry and I will tell you why. Today you can tune and phrase vocals untill you have it  perfect. So any group or soloist can be played on the radio and sound just as good as the pros. But when you go to hear them live the singing doesn't match up unless you have heavy stacks and even then they don't have the stage talent to match up with the pros. But do you take them out of the industry all together? My answer is NO ! That would be like taking out the middle class out of the economy you have to have them to make the world go around. So I feel we need the part-time group. Now there are some part-time groups that have what it takes to be full-time but don't want to sing full-time. There has been a many great singers and back in the day a many great pickers in part-time groups that have been some of the biggest names in Gospel Music. The part-time group is needed and has always been needed to keep our music going.

McCray, I belong to one of those part-time groups that support your ministry. Our part-time group performs roughly 80 singing engagements per year and sponsors at least 3 or 4 Professional groups to come to our area as the Dove brothers did this spring. Your group truly blessed me more than I can ever express. It is hard to stay humble and focused on the Lord when there are so many stressors and hurdles in the gospel music industry. Jerry Kelso himself made the comment to me that I was an awesome tenor and our quartet had a great sound following our concert with the Dove Brothers so I humbly assume that our group fits the bill to be talented enough go full time, I just don't feel that God has called us to that level yet. Whatever God calls each of us to do we are all ready to serve him. We do all that we can do to keep southern gospel music alive by encouraging area churches to stay interested in southern gospel rather than going contemporary. Smaller churches are not able to afford the money it costs to have a professional group come to their church, but are able to povide a love offering to pay our expenses. I would almost welcome going full time to be able to devote all my song writing energy and focus on music. Each member of my group holds a full time job during the week and puts in 18-20 hour days perfoming a minimum of 3-4 separate concerts per weekend. I personally pull a 70 hour work week Monday through Friday and still continue to serve the Lord as a member of a well known local southern gospel quartet that regularly tours four surrounding States as well as Canada. I like to think that by trying to keep southern gospel alive, supporting ministries like the Dove Brothers by promoting concerts and regularly buying your merchandise, and encouraging others to support the Dove Brothers ministry and events, we are a vital contributor to the continued success of Professional groups like yours. God Bless.
We are a southern gospel group located in Idaho and have found a real need to minister to churches in Washington State, Idaho and Oregon. The church is desparately in need of uplifting. Our group Obadiah and The Old Testaments have been singing now for two years and are really seeing the need to minister. I find it takes alot of time and work to prepare for concerts in order to not provide a burnt offering. We find ourselves performing in some venues that do not have proper equiptment or none at all and so we have to be on top of our game so that we can provide the best ministry opportunity as possible. Gods blessing us in so many ways. We have been blessed with our own van, new sound equipment and plenty of venues to play in. I would like to ask a question. How are you organized? Are you a 501-c3? A corporation etc.... You can e-mail me at kensheldongfa@cableone.net
