James Berkowitz is a poet, writer, filmmaker, DJ, and event producer. He received a Bachelor of Science degree in communciations from Emerson college (Boston, MA) and a certificate from the UCLA Extension film program (Los Angeles, CA). His poetry works include "Millie's place" (Los Angeles Independent Newspaper), "What Would We do?" (Pasadena Weekly & www.pacosvillage.com), "Let The Celebration Begin!" (Indo-American times & www.pacosvillage.com), "Lover's Point" (The Pacific Grove Press), "Dance With Me Sweet Moonlight" (Vision Magazine), "A Love Supreme" (Newsbridge Magazine), "In Honor of Woman" (Downtown LA Life Magazine), and "New York City Streets"/ "The Deep Wet Cafe Kiss"/ "This Morning I Woke Up and Splashed My Face with God"/ "Some Souls Heeded The Call" (www.poetrymagazine.com) . He has self-published two collections of poetry "The Angels are Watching" in 2003 and "Canteen Trumpets at Noon" which debuted in 1997. James achieved literary artist of the month status in September 2006 on New York City based www.raintiger.com as well as Spring 2008 feature artist on www.poetrymagazine.com
In 2000, James created two poetry festivals on the Monterey Peninsula. The first was in honor of National Poetry Month; the second took place as "Plenitude of Poets," www.montereycountyweekly.com/articles/5882/print which was also released as an anthology book. He's also appeared and performed his poetry via radio on KZSC "Word Beat", WXBR "Body, Mind, and Spirit", and "Straight Ahead With Hassan" on www.killradio.org as well as been a guest interview via cable television on "The Psychic Mind" (Media One) and "Spirit Talk" (BNN).
Additional media credits include "Circle of Love" a short film that James wrote, produced, directed, and edited in 1994. He also produced and directed and version of Edward Albee's "The Zoo Story" for Media One Cable in 1997. In the summer of 2002, James edited the essay "Declaration of Truth" written by Burcu Gezek Harbert, which was published in the fall issue of "Newsbridge" magazine. James entered film production again in 2005 as the co-producer of Have A Nice Death www.haveanicedeath.com written and directed by Sherrie Robertson which was selected into the Minnesota Summer Solstice Film Festival (2006) and the Big Island of Hawaii Film Festival (2007). He recently appeared as "The Dancer" in a short film "Tonight Only" directed by Jaret Sacrey and currently being sent to 2008 film festivals.
James created and served as executive producer for the WAAF 107.3/ 97.7FM Baystate Rock 20TH Anniversary event which took place during the month of December 2006 with a sold out live event at the end of January 2007 featuring a reunion of "The Outlets" and "Moving Targets" in which he was responsible in bringing to fruition. His roots in the Boston music scene are steeped deeply producing two local area based music video programs "30 GO" and "CLUBTV" circa 1986 as well as being a DJ for a local music show "Bright Lights" for WECB-AM (Emerson College) and assistant on Metrowave WERS-FM.
James is currently at work on a music video concept for a national touring singer/songwriter while continuing to write new poems and short stories for his third book. You can hear and see James perform and be interviewed via radio and live appearances.
